The RGS Series consists of a range of High Power Regenerative AC and DC capable Grid Simulators covering a power range from 12 kVA to 252 kVA. All RGS models offer single, split and three phase output configurations. The RGS is a state-of-the-art design using the latest Silicon Carbide digital power conversion technologies. Power density is among the highest in the industry allowing 21 kVA/kW of power in only 4U (7″) of rack space.
Great emphasis has been placed on energy efficiency, ease of installation, and maximum power per cubic inch of rack space. Control and operational features provide a high degree of application versatility and ease of use for the test engineer. Applications range from simple, manually controlled frequency conversion to harmonic immunity testing and sophisticated transient simulation.
Power conversion within the RGS Series is achieved by digitally controlled, high frequency pulse width modulation, resulting in cool, quiet and efficient operation.
All RGS models are capable of returning full rated power back to the utility grid when testing energy producing EUTs such as wind and solar inverter or bidirectional V2x EV Charging units, Each RGS unit includes standard analog and digital I/O functions, scope functions for voltage and current waveform capture, programmable output impedance and harmonic analysis measurements. Standard frequency range covers 15Hz through 200Hz and output voltage range is 350VLN / 606VLL. An optional extended frequency range is available if needed for non grid frequency applications like avionics power (Option F).

Regenerative Energy Recovery
The bi-directional regenerative capabilities of the RGS Series support testing of green energy, distributed energy producing equipment. In electronic load mode (option L), the RGS will return 90% of the energy received from the EUT back to the power grid instead of dissipating it.
AC or DC Test Power
The RGS Series Power Source is equipped with multiple high-end Digital Signal Processors to create a fully integrated test system. It supplies a variety of power conditions to the device under test and meters all output performance parameters.
EMC Compliance Test Power
The RGS Series can also be used as an integral part of our Power Line Emissions and Immunity EMC Test Systems, the ECTS2 Series. These systems are used to test for compliance to IEC Harmonics, Flicker and Immunity for AC power or DC power products that must meet CE mark requirements for export to Europe.
Frequency/Voltage Conversion
The RLS Series is an excellent source of stable AC voltage over the frequency range of 15 to 200 Hz. The output frequency is accurate to 0.01%.
Phase Conversion
With the ability to provide singe, split and three-phase outputs, the RGS Series is the perfect choice to provide 1 Phase to 2 or 3 Phase or 3 Phase to 1 Phase conversion.
Controller
The RGS Series controller offers both manual and full programmable control. Front panel operation is menu driven using a combination of direct access menu keys to the left of the large color display and 5 soft keys located on the right of the display. The rotary knob can be used to scroll through menu fields and doubles as an ENTER key. The same knob allows for slewing of output parameters. A full decimal keypad is provided as well for direct parameter entry. The RGS can also be operated remotely from one of its included remote interfaces. Operation from a web browser via LAN or USB is also supported through the embedded SmartSource Suite web server of the RGS.

Single Voltage Range with Constant Power Profile
Traditional AC power sources use two voltage ranges to provide either high voltage or high current. By contrast, the RGS Series uses a unique single voltage range that operates along a constant power curve. This provides more current at low voltages, eliminating the need to switch between voltage ranges and provides a much wider operating range (demonstrated as green in the figure below).
Switching voltage ranges on dual voltage range Grid Simulators causes the output to be turned off and the EUT to shut down. This makes it difficult to test universal wide input range AC products.
The blue line and green shaded area in the chart shows the additional operating range available compared to a conventional AC power source with a 175V/350V range pair. The same applies to DC mode of operation where a single 500Vdc voltage range is used to provide both high DC current and DC voltage.
