Highest Current on the Market
Provides more current from 120V to 200V (42A) compared to competitor (35A) per phase. 20% more current over competitors at lower voltage.
40% more current over NHR based on the highest power configuration in single building block. (12kW for NHR vs 21kW for PPS).
2s Overload Capability
Supplies 130% of rated current for 2s. No need to oversize equipment for short duration overload conditions
High Power Density with 75% Increase in True Power per Unit. Modular, Scalable Power up to 756kW Systems.
*Note: Green Boxes indicate the number of modules required to reach approximately the same power level.
NHR Limited power up to 96kW. This large cabinet is equivalent to only 5 x 4U RGS Series with Pacific Power Source.
Parallel up to 189kW per cabinet, or up to 256kW for two cabinets. Three-Phase systems up to 756kW.
2-in-1 Grid Sim AND Load Option
The RGS Series offers a Load Option which eliminates the need for another instrument.
Flexible Multi-Channel Configurations
The RGS Series can operate in each phase as a different function: voltage source, current source, or load (option), providing the most similar configuration to NHR than other vendors on the market. The addition of the load mode offers even more flexibility.

FAQ
Are the NH Research (NHR) 9410 and 9420 being discontinued?
Yes. Both are part of NH Research’s legacy lineup now owned by NI (National Instruments) — itself acquired by Emerson in 2023 — which has been sunsetting older NHR product lines.
What does Pacific Power Source offer as a replacement for the 9410/9420?
The RGS series Grid Simulator is the direct replacement for most 9410/9420 configurations — a 2-in-1 regenerative grid simulator with an optional AC/DC load, built for IEEE 1547, UL 1741, and comparable grid-tied compliance testing. The GSZ series is the upgrade path: it adds a Power-Hardware-in-the-Loop (PHIL) interface on top of the same grid-simulator feature set, for customers who need real-time grid-fault emulation beyond what the 9410 offered.
How much more power density does RGS deliver than the 9410/9420?
Per Pacific Power Source’s published comparison: RGS delivers roughly 4x the power density of the NHR 9410/9420 — up to 24 kW in a single 4U chassis versus the NHR’s 12 kW in 9U — plus 57% smaller rack space for an equivalent build-out.
Does RGS provide more usable power than the 9410/9420 at the same rating?
Yes, per the same published comparison: RGS delivers 75% more true power and roughly 40% more current at the building-block level (42A vs. 30A single-phase; 126A vs. 90A three-phase), adding up to ~300% more power per kW claimed overall. Total system scaling is also higher — up to 432 kW parallel / 1.296 MW in three-phase configurations, versus the NHR’s 96 kW parallel ceiling.
Does RGS/GSZ cover the same voltage and frequency range as the 9410/9420?
It meets or exceeds it. The NHR 9410/9420 start at a 10V floor (10–175V / 10–350V ranges) and run 30–100 Hz; RGS and GSZ start from true zero-volt (0–350 Vac L-N / 0–606 Vac L-L, with a 500V DC option) and cover 15–200 Hz, with an optional 15–1,200 Hz range — a wider window on both the low-voltage and high-frequency ends.
Which one replaces my 9410/9420 — RGS or GSZ?
If you’re doing straightforward grid-simulator or AC-source testing — IEEE 1547, UL 1741, general compliance — RGS is the closer, direct match. If your test plan needs real-time grid-fault or disturbance emulation via PHIL (power-hardware-in-the-loop), GSZ adds that capability on the same platform. Bring your current 9410/9420 model and test requirements to a Pacific Power Source applications engineer to confirm.
Will I need to rebuild my test automation when switching from NHR to RGS/GSZ?
The NHR 9410/9420 run on “Enerchron” software over a LAN/SCPI interface. Pacific Power Source systems run SmartSource Suite — a browser-based interface for creating, saving, and running test sequences — and support a broader native interface set (LAN, GPIB, RS232, USB, CAN FD, Modbus, and analog I/O). Most existing SCPI-based test sequences carry over with some re-pointing; bring your specific automation stack to an applications engineer to scope the transition.
Who should I talk to about replacing a 9410 or 9420 before it fails?
Contact a Pacific Power Source applications engineer with your current model number(s) and power rating(s) — they’ll confirm whether RGS or GSZ is the right fit, map out what changes (if anything) in your test setup and automation, and work out lead times before you’re forced into an unplanned replacement.
