Regenerative Electronic Load Simulators
The ELZ Series is a family of high power, single, split and three phase, AC and DC Load Simulators with full energy recovery to the AC mains. Available models range from 30 kVA to 550 kVA. Using a modern color touch screen based user interface for ease of use, the ELZ Series is cost effective and fully programmable for both basic and advanced AC or DC loading test applications.
The energy recovery capability allows sinking of current and power up to 100% of rated power using an array of advanced load programming functions.
The ELZ Series consists of a range of High Power Load Simulators with regenerative capability to support sinking of current and power. Energy recovery to the grid enables testing of products using only a fraction of the required grid power when compared to using non-regenerative electronic or dissipative loads, saving significant energy costs. The ELZ also supports testing distributed energy resources for smart grids like wind and solar inverters, energy storage systems (ESS) and electric Vehicle to Grid (V2G) and Vehicle to Home backup systems.
Covering a power range from 30 kVA to 550 kVA. All ELZ models offer single, split and three phase output configurations in addition to several independent input mode settings. The ELZ is a state-of-the-art design using Silicon Carbide (SiC) power devices for enhanced performance.
Great emphasis has been placed on energy efficiency, ease of installation, and maximum power. Control and operational features provide a high degree of application versatility and ease of use for the test engineer. Applications range from simple, manually controlled product burn-in to complex load anomaly testing using sophisticated load transient simulation. To accommodate a wide range of power products, the ELZ supports a fundamental frequency range from 15Hz to 1000Hz and dual AC input voltage ranges of 5-240VLN / 9-415VLL and 5-480VLN / 9-830VLL respectively. In DC mode, voltage ranges are ±0-340Vdc and ±0-680Vdc.
Available load modes are Constant Current (CP), Constant Resistance (CR), Constant Power (CP) and Circuit Emulation of linear and non-linear loads.
For Power Hardware in the Loop (HIL) load simulation applications, the ELZ offers an optional high speed analog I/O for fast response (Option H).

Regenerative AC or DC Load Simulation
The ELZ Series Regenerative Load Simulator can sink current and power from an EUT to test a wide range of energy generating products like UPS's, PV Inverters or EV Chargers. In DC mode, the ELZ can be used to discharge large battery packs up to 1000Vdc using series output mode.
Energy Savings Reduce Cost
Regenerative Loads save cost by reducing electricity use and heat generation. They also allow testing of higher power EUTs as most of the power sent to the ELZ load is regenerated back on the gird so the test lab power feed only has to cover the losses of the test equipment used and the EUT.
Supported Load Modes are Constant Current (CC), Constant Resistive (CR), Constant Power (CP) and Circuit Emulation (CE). Voltage, power and current ranges remain the same as in Voltage Source or Current Source modes.
Controller
The ELZ Series controller offers both manual and full programmable control. Front panel operation is menu driven using a combination of direct access menu keys to the left of the large color display and 5 soft keys located on the right of the display. The rotary knob can be used to scroll through menu fields and doubles as an ENTER key. The same knob allows for slewing of output parameters. A full decimal keypad is provided as well for direct parameter entry. The ELZ can also be operated remotely using the included web browser based SmartSource Suite control software over LAN or USB.
